MEET THE TEAM
David co-founded Boston Consulting Group’s global data science practice. At TellusLabs, David is combining his love of satellite remote sensing with nearly a decade of practical experience addressing the geospatial and data-driven questions of the Fortune 500. Prior to BCG, David served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the US Navy. He received an AB from Harvard College, an MA in satellite remote sensing from Boston University, and a PhD in geo-demography from Princeton.
Mark is an internationally recognized remote sensing scientist. He is the former chair of the Geography and Environment and Earth Sciences departments at Boston University, and a science team member on several NASA, USGS, and ESA remote sensing instrument teams. He has 20+ years experience developing algorithms for the land remote sensing community and delivering global-scale science products.
Head of Product
Greg joins TellusLabs with significant experience building and managing award-winning products across industries and functions. As a product manager for Meridian, BCG’s proprietary spatial analytics platform, Greg supported products and case teams answering location-based questions for Fortune 500 companies around the globe. Previously, Greg worked at a leading electronic medical records company, where he created a consulting service and a product designed to help physicians leverage clinical outcomes in negotiations with insurance companies. Greg holds a B.S. in Management from Tulane University.
Nick Malizia, PhD
Head of Data Science
Nick has 12+ years of experience working in the field of spatial data science. Formerly a lead data scientist with the Boston Consulting Group, Nick focused on bringing advanced analytical methods to clients in a variety of practices & sectors including retail, banking, healthcare, telecommunications, industrial goods, energy, transportation & logistics. His interests lie at the nexus of spatial analysis, machine learning and operations research. Nick holds a Ph.D. in Geography from Arizona State University, an M.A. and a B.A. in Geography from Clark University.
Head of Engineering
Josh has 15+ years of experience in hands-on technology leadership, architecture and R&D in distributed systems, data engineering, machine learning, GIS, and internet services. He led the R&D team at Azavea that created GeoTrellis, an open source geographic data processing engine running on Spark. Josh was most recently Lead Software Engineer at Meetup, where he led creation of big data, business intelligence and machine learning infrastructure for Meetup’s 30 million members. As CTO of Solutions for Progress, he built The Benefit Bank, an expert system responsible for billions of dollars of tax & benefit filings for low-income Americans.
Mia’s experience extends across the fields of geospatial analytics and computer science. Prior to joining TellusLabs, Mia was at MIT, where she worked on building a remote sensing application that employs autonomously operated UAVs. In the past, she has been involved in a range of projects, where she was responsible for implementing GIS evaluations of human footprint in world protected areas, building software tools for the neuroimaging research community, and developing data visualization and mapping platforms. Mia holds an MS from the MIT Media Lab, and a BA in Urban Geography from McGill University.
General Manager | Business Development
In his previous management role, Fernando was responsible for supporting Knewton’s international expansion throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and India, signing partnerships with leading education companies, universities, and governments. Previously, he worked on large-scale transactions in the Financial Institutions sector in the Investment Banking division at J.P. Morgan in London. A Boston native, Fernando is a Mentor at TechStars Boston, a tutor at the Epiphany School and an advisor to seed-stage companies locally. He holds a B.A. in History and Economics from Dartmouth College.
